Area Law Enforcement
Approximately 50 vehicles have been smeared with what seems to be human blood in the German city of Hanau close to Frankfurt, according to authorities.
Vehicles, exterior walls and mailboxes were marked, sometimes with swastikas, they reported in a official communication.
Police report they were alerted during the night on Wednesday evening, when a individual discovered that a automobile in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish liquid.
The fluid had been placed in the form of a banned symbol, they added.
Law enforcement then discovered multiple other marked automobiles and residential walls in the surrounding area.
Nazi symbols are banned in Germany under laws banning the public display of Nazi-era symbols.
Officials state early analysis show the fluid was probably human bodily fluid.
"There is still no lead as to where it came from; officials are presently not aware of any physical harm in association with the incident," they stated.
Municipal representatives said they were trying "to resolve the mystery" and have appealed to the community for information.
A high-ranking official stated the vandalism left him speechless and needed to be solved promptly.
"This incident affects the core of Hanau and reawakens the pain of the far-right terrorist attack five years ago," he wrote on online, referring to the death of nine individuals by a shooter focusing on residents of migrant background in five years prior.
